And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

1 John 2:1

RECOMMENDED READING:  I TIMOTHY 2:5  “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

COMMENTS:  Today is Good Friday, the day Christ suffered greatly and died separated from the Father while bearing our sins and guilt.  He prepared for that desperately dark time for Him so we would not need to.  Take some time today to prepare remembering His love and sacrifice for you and me.  Take time all weekend to prepare also for Easter when we rejoice and celebrate and worship Him for our redemption fully paid for by His death and blood.  He is our sacrificial lamb, but only  fulfilled in us personally when we accept His sacrifice for our own sins.    The significance of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross impacts us today as it did that first Easter morning.  But an understanding of all His sacrifice means still escapes us.  Christ paid so we could be forgiven and live with Him in heaven.  But He also paid so we could live with the Holy Spirit in us while alive.  He became our advocate, our intermediary so the Father accepts us because He sees us through His Son and not our sins.   That means we owe everything to Christ and His sacrifice was completely for you and me but sufficient for all who accept His sacrifice for themselves.  But in order to receive and enjoy the benefits and blessings of His sacrifice, we must accept it.  We cannot earn forgiveness because the price for our sins is too great.  We cannot earn or work enough to pay that price.

Let’s not allow ourselves to get used to or take for granted our forgiveness, nor the sacrifice Christ made for our forgiveness.  Let’s live as He calls us to live and give others a reason to ask what makes us different.  Then when we tell them about His love and Good News, the impact our words will have will be powerful and credible.  Others will see credible value available for them too.  But God needs to prepare hearts to receive and prepare ours too.  Let’s make this a daily item of prayer so opportunities and effectiveness in using those opportunities will become reality and not missed because of sin and indifference in our lives.

Why does Christ defend you against Satan? Because there is “no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). Give thanks today for your Heavenly Advocate, for Christ who suffered and died but now intercedes for you each and every day.  We are safe in His care.

“And do but take away Christ’s intercession, and you starve the hope of the saints.”

John Flavel
