For unto us a Child is born,Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be calledWonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.Of the increase of His government and peaceThere will be no end,Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,To order it and establish it with judgment and justiceFrom that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

COMMENTS:  Isaiah 9:6-7 is a wonderful prophetic scripture in which God inspired Isaiah to foretell of coming Messiah who would rule over Israel and all creation but also a scripture that has assigned many names to this coming Messiah and King.  Some of those names: “Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”.  His rule shall be universal, just, and unending.

This is a great and wonderful mystery.  How can Jesus be the “Everlasting Father” and all the other names scripture identifies Him by, including our Messiah and Savior and Redeemer, and also pray “My God, why have You forsaken Me” and “Father, into thy Hands do I commit my Spirit”? How can Jesus pray to the Father and be the “Everlasting Father”?  Humanly speaking, this seems to be a contradiction and conflict in scripture, but begins to make sense if we accept the doctrine of God being a Triune God of 3 persons but One God.   If we try to understand God, remember He is God and boundless in ability and power but also perfectly united in mind and rule.   God the Father – God the Son (Jesus Christ) – God the Holy Spirit are One God and One in all God is and does and will do.   When He was born a baby, grew is body and mind and spirit and knowledge, this was because He put off His divine attributes and abilities while on earth as a human, and then become totally reliant on the Father to guide Him during those years.

Today He is preparing Heaven for His return for us (“ And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” John 14:3).  Heaven is that place – a perfect place of peace.   As darkness is the lack of light, lack of peace, the lack of God’s light shows up in the form of wars, violence, crimes, sinful conduct and hurtful words, …

The human sole desires and longs for peace.  Every generation has endured one or more rulers              with aspiring to bring war, not peace, motivated by their own evil vision and goals.  They brought war and suffering and death without regard of the price their reign brought and brings to those they have authority over and those they want to gain authority over.

Well, their reign was brief and defeat and death has been and will be the end of all still to come, but not without causing harm to millions of others.   But the psalmist tells us to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem – Psalm 122:6” Only God can and will do that.  Satan has a long track record of promising peace and delivering war.   History has repeated that behavior and results from the beginning but when Christ returns and establishes His rule WITHOUT SATAN’S INFLUENCE, true peace will be in force in Jerusalem but also everywhere.  Then Jesus the Christ will be the “Prince of Peace” and we will enjoy that peace with Him for eternity (Isaiah 9:6-7).

When the angels announced the Messiah’s birth to the shepherds, they were introducing them and us to the Messiah promised, to our Savior and Redeemer, to our God in a much more personal way possible because He paid the price of redemption from sin and its consequences.

Christmas is a great time to draw closer to Christ and seek the forgiveness and peace that only He can provide to us.  He then tells us “25 All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. 30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. (John 14:25-31).
