THE GLORIOUS NEW CREATION

17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.

COMMENTS:  Is heaven supposed to be our primary motivation for being a Christian and being faithful to Christ?  Is it the motivation of a reward of a “mansion in the sky” or is heaven a goal to be logically and spiritually planned and worked toward?  Is it a selfish motivation or is there another to consider?

Well, these are good questions but as most bible based teaching and instruction, the answers are true and unchanging but revelation of their teaching is ongoing.

The primary motivation of the Christian to sacrifice and evangelize and live a Christ-like life and give money and time and gifts to reaching others for Christ is the promise of heaven.   So what there is so appealing?

  1. Is it the beautiful mansion or the streets of gold or the never aging new bodies?  Yes, but there is far more important and precious reasons and motivations.
  2. Is it no more temptation and disease and death and hatred and evil of all kinds.   Yes, but there is more.
  3. Is it rest from the toils and work of this world?   Yes, but there will be work we will be called to do in heaven too.
  4. Well, then what is the motivation those before us and those persecuted and sacrifice much today willingly do as faithful Christians?
    1. Have you ever planned for a trip and so look forward to departure day?  What enhances the anticipation and excitement is sharing both planning and experience with loved ones.   Sharing our faith and see others transformed and enjoying Christ’s Good News and Redemption and promise of heaven too is a major motivation.
    2. Bringing joy to our Creator and Lord and Savior is our primary motivation.  We were made to praise and worship Him and bring Him Joy.  Our fulfillment is in doing His Will and being in relationship with Him. That will continue without distractions and hindrances of temptation and sin – from evil in the world and in our souls.

So what is our primary motivation for following Christ?  To worship and praise and be in a personal relationship with our Creator – our Redeemer – our Greatest and Best Friend – but most of all our one and only True God of all.

What was Paul thinking and visualizing when he wrote 1 Corinthians 2:9?  “We can only imagine”.   He was not only visualizing heaven; he was also visualizing seeing God face to face.   He was visualizing experiencing heaven with friends and loved ones and those he led to Christ and who came before him plus so much more.

The mind of man is incapable of knowing and discovering all that the mind of God contains. His ways are as far above our ways as the heavens are above the earth (Isaiah 55:8-9).

If you ever think you have God figured out, think again. His love and plans for His children, both now and in eternity, are beyond our imagination.
