LIVING ABOVE THE WORLD

Colossians 3-2 Things Above-black

Such a one was caught up to the third heaven… into Paradise and heard inexpressible words.  2 Corinthians 12:2-4

RECOMMENDED SCRIPTURE 2 CORINTHIANS 12:1-6 – “ It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven. And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. Of such a one I will boast; yet of myself I will not boast, except in my infirmities. For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to be or hears from me.”

COMMENTS:  Near death experiences have got attention in recent years with the published books “90 minutes in Heaven” and “Heaven is for Real” For me, these 2 books are the most credible because they share the experiences of genuine Christians and are supported by scripture.  Some are not and should not be considered.  After all, satan is the skilled deceiver and is very persuasive at making what is fake seem real and genuine.

George Whitefield gave an account of William Tennent, a friend, who was pronounced dead but during his funeral a doctor noticed movement and discovered he was not dead at all but just unconscious. William recovered and gave an account of the glory of heaven with singing and indescribable joy.

For many years Tennent continued to testify of his experience and the impact it made on his life and perspective.  His experience caused him to put less concern on worldly issues and values and more on Godly issues and values and on the importance of eternal concerns like the souls of people.

Everyone has or will experience the loss of a loved one and the lonely sleepless nights that loss gives.  But the Christian believer has so much more to give peace and comfort and confident hope.  As a believer, we know that during dark hours we are not alone nor abandoned. God’s comfort surpasses understanding.  We anticipate heaven, and that anticipation enables us to live above the world where we can see eternity.  Satan doesn’t want us to see eternity, because his lies and dead ends are exposed there and it is there he loses his power over us.   AMEN?  AMEN!

“I want to live above the world, though Satan’s darts at me are hurled; for faith has caught the joyful sound, the song of saints on higher ground.”  Johnson Oatman
