RECOMMENDED READING:  LUKE 24:13-27 13 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.17 And He said to them, “What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?”18 Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?”19 And He said to them, “What things?”So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. 21 But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. 22 Yes, and certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us.. 23 When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive. 24 And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see.”25 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” 27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.”

COMMENTS:   At the time of writing this devotion, our local state and community is beginning to transition from isolation.   Businesses are beginning to open with some restrictions while our home churches are being instructed by church leaders to remain closed from gathering physically until June 1st.  I praise God our local county (Venango) only has 7 Covid 19 victims and no deaths but surrounding and nearby counties have many more, so danger and risks still remain of infections and potentially resulted deaths continuing.

Our church does have live video worship and bible study being viewed by 60-80 regularly and our pastor is planning to continue this practice even after our churches reopen as a means of outreach and ministry in community and beyond.

Good coming out of this crisis is many families spending time together and reconnecting as well as demonstrating kindnesses in their community.   Even the news is reporting such kindnesses instead of just focusing on reporting evil and destruction.

However, I am reflecting on what God wants me to do and future He wants me to prepare for.   What opportunities He is giving me opportunity to respond to?

The message that gives me great hope and peace.  The message that no matter what comes, God knows and is in control and “ON THE JOB”!  He has His followers and children in His Hands and no matter what comes they have the confidence of an eternal home.   If they face death today or tomorrow or 30 years from now, that confidence stands secure because He stands with them without fail.    In the meantime, life remains uncertain so having His Holy Spirit near and seeking His Council constantly is essential to assure wise and the best choices continue.  The most important choice is to repent and surrender our wills to follow His.  Our lawmakers and leaders continue to have daunting decisions to make but you and I do to.  Why would we not solicit and follow God’s council first and always.  After all, He knows all, is all wise and discerning, and has our best interest in mind always.  His ways and timing seem illogical and too slow much of the time, but history proves He is always on time and best for all but also for each individual.  Today’s scripture reminds us Christ is part of the Triune God and will prevail along with all who follow Him.  Today’s scripture even confirm God knew the cross was Christ’s future from the time of Moses, but elsewhere even before creation.   Such knowledge and wisdom means God is not surprised nor unprepared to deal with any all life’s problems and crisis and disasters satan would put on us.  He allows satan to do his mischief within limits but uses even His mischief to make us stronger and draw us closer to God and prepare us for eternity as well as enable us to draw and help other come to Him while on our journey too.

Archaeologists discovered Emmaus in recent years.  As with many sights in scripture, sceptics denied existences of them but recent discovering proof their existence.  How many more are yet to be discovered and still used by sceptics to deny God’s existences or scripture’s accuracy?  Only God knows but you and I have more than enough evidence to prove God’s existence and involvement in history both past and present and future.  AMEN? AMEN!

As with the men who walked with Jesus on Emmaus road, we can be enlightened and encouraged and inspired even unaware He is near and the source of that essential help.  Let us be aware of opportunities He gives us to walk with Him each and every day even though we don’t see Him with our eyes or hear Him with our ears.   He still walks with us each day and speaks to us each day.  We just need to notice and listen to discover Him. Doing so will be life changing for us and life changing for all who will cross our path too.

“Whoever knows the God of the Old Testament meets Him again in the New, with no transition adjustment necessary.” Rene Pache
