PERFECT TIMING

                            2thessalonians3-3

My lord, O king, this is the woman.  2 Kings 8:5

SCRIPTURE2 KINGS 8:1-6  Then Elisha spoke to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise and go, you and your household, and stay wherever you can; for the Lord has called for a famine, and furthermore, it will come upon the land for seven years.” So the woman arose and did according to the saying of the man of God, and she went with her household and dwelt in the land of the Philistines seven years.

It came to pass, at the end of seven years, that the woman returned from the land of the Philistines; and she went to make an appeal to the king for her house and for her land. Then the king talked with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, saying, “Tell me, please, all the great things Elisha has done.” Now it happened, as he was telling the king how he had restored the dead to life, that there was the woman whose son he had restored to life, appealing to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life.” And when the king asked the woman, she told him.So the king appointed a certain officer for her, saying, “Restore all that was hers, and all the proceeds of the field from the day that she left the land until now.”

COMMENTS:  It amazing me that anyone can be an atheist, but I’ve heard x-atheists said it wasn’t a lack of evidence but a resistance to submit to will and laws of God that causes them to deny God’s existence.   They use evil and injustice in the world as evidence against God’s existence and involvement in the world.  The Bible has something to say about that.

43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy.

44 But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”  Matthew 5:43-48

“All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you, but now I am going to him who sent me. None of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ Rather, you are filled with grief because I have said these things. But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”16 Jesus went on to say, “In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.”  John 16:1-16

The Bible tells us why evil is in the world and seems to prevail for a time.  God gives each human freedom to choose good or evil.  To choose the source of Good (God) or the source of evil (satan).    He allows satan to prevail over many of Christ’s followers for a time, but promised to bring judgment and justice in His time.  Satan does have limits in what he is permitted to do and how long, as story of Job explains so well.  But there is a time coming soon when God will say “ENOUGH!” and bring an end to satan’s evil – destructive mischief.  That day I am so looking forward to, as is every believer.  How about you?

I have to admit, God gives satan far more “rope” than I would, but then again I can’t see the strengthening and good that comes out of persecution and suffering and how much more effectively suffering draw us closer to Him than prosperity and comfortable surroundings do.  Besides, I can’t see the ripple affect either.  I’m still learning to trust Him, as am sure you are too.  But time and experience only serves to cause me to trust Him more and more as time continues.  How about you?  His perfect timing is the most consistent evidence of His love and faithfulness and wisdom.

An old fashion word commonly used by the founders of USA some 200-400 years ago is “providence” which means “the protective care of God or of nature as a spiritual power.”  They were not referring to nature or a pagan god but to God Himself.  It was not freedom to practice atheism that motivated the pilgrims and colonists to coming to America during its founding years.  It was Christians desiring and seeking freedom to worship and share Christ.  Their faith and belief in God’s providence was what gave them the motivation and passion and will to do so at great personal sacrifice.  It is time we too recognize and capture their passion and faith and willingness to sacrifice too.

There are no coincidences when we are in the will of God—His timing is perfect.

There are no coincidences in our life, only God’s providence.   Greg Laurie
