Words From Above

Revelation 2

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says.Revelation 2:7

Recommended Reading: Revelation 2:8-11  “And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.”

COMMENTS: North Korea is responsible for the most severe persecution of Christians in the world in contrast to South Korea’s neutrality towards Christians. South Korea Christians are supporting Christians and evangelizing in North Korea via radio station broadcasts into North Korea and also in releasing hundreds of balloons carrying God’s word in Korean language along with flash drives with New Testaments into North Korea. Guards and walls are in place not to keep South Koreans out of North Korea but North Koreans from escaping into South Korea. Discussion of building a wall between the US and Mexico is not to keep US citizens from escaping to Mexico but Mexicans from escaping into US. Free democratic counties are places of refuge for citizens of communist and dictatorship ruled countries longing for the freedom enjoyed in democratic countries. Individuals without constraint will become corrupt and abusive when given authority without accountability or limits. They lack the wisdom and character to consistently rule wisely and to sustain wise rule.
You and I, likewise, are not strong enough to sustain wisdom in our lives without being accountable to a wiser authority. Democracies typically rule more wisely and fairly because of checks and balances and election process makes and keeps leaders accountable with threat of losing their positions if abuse their powers. We need to make ourselves accountable to God and follow His council if we ever hope to live Christ-like lives and leave a legacy worthy of our name “Christian”. Otherwise, we will fall short and fail but also will wonder down a sinful and evil path to destruction without even realizing it. Solomon, Samson, and David are examples of strong and wise men who started out following God’s council and wondered away from God, losing God’s influence and strength in their lives, without ever realizing it. The prophet Nathan was able to waken David back up to repent in time. Have you been wakened too? I have more than once too.
Keeping ourselves connected to God with daily devotions, including study of His word and prayer are vital. Equally vital is staying connected with other faithful Christians and making ourselves accountable to them. Our friends and spouses will notice our wonderings even before we admit or recognize them. But God will notice and alert us even sooner if we are open enough and connected to Him. He will keep our consciences soft and tender so we will be alerted when temptations come. So, we will run from temptations before their roots grow into our souls and lives. When we deny or ignore our vulnerability is when we are the most vulnerable. When we recognize and run to God for help that is when we are the strongest and wisest and least vulnerable. Why not live running to God instead of living on our own? This should be a “no brainer” but is still a struggle for me and you and everyone else. We still have work to do and a discipline to learn and follow if we ever hope to gain victory over sin and temptation. Seven times the book of Revelation says, “He who has an ear, let him hear.” Let’s listen and learn and spread the message abroad.
