At What Cost?

                   Psalm23

Turn us back to You, O Lord, and we will be restored; renew our days as of old.
Lamentations 5:21

RECOMMENDED SCRIPTURE READING:  Lamentations 5:19-22   19 You, O Lord, remain forever;Your throne from generation to generation.20 Why do You forget us forever,And forsake us for so long a time?21 Turn us back to You, O Lord, and we will be restored;Renew our days as of old,22 Unless You have utterly rejected us,And are very angry with us!”

COMMENTS:   King Tutankhamun’s tomb was perfectly sealed and preserved until it was discovered and opened in 1922.  It became famous and was visited by thousands of people, but the dust and even carbon dioxide exhaled by those visitors took a toll in causing deterioration to the tomb and its contents.     A restoration became necessary as well as creating an atmosphere to protect the tomb from further damage.

Outside contaminants and influences cause damage and deterioration to us physically too.  Since we live in a fallen world, we slowly but surely age and progress to death.  Likewise, temptations and evil’s influence and affect also cause damage and deterioration to our souls too.  Psalm 23 is a wonderful – concise psalm The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures,he leads me beside quiet waters,  he refreshes my soul.He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley,[a] I will fear no evil,  for you are with me; your rod and your staff,  they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil;  my cup overflows.  Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

The need for regular and continual cleaning is certain in order grow and become more Christ-like.  He is our source of life and we quickly begin to die spiritually when we neglect or turn from Him.

But Christ paid dearly for our redemption in order to make our part to receive His mercy and forgiveness and ongoing viable relationship with Him easy for us or at least disproportionately easier for us by comparison.  The hardest part for us is admitting our sins to Him and surrendering our lives and wills to follow His Will.  If we do, we soon discover His Will and ways are infinitely better for us anyway.

Let Jesus revive your heart today, then thank Him for the cleansing power of His blood.

When Satan deplores us and the world ignores us, God restores us.  Anonymous
