New Heaven & Earth

                           Revelation vs Genesis

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.  Revelation 21:1

Revelation 21:1-2 – “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also, there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”

COMMENTS:  What will heaven be like.  Well, however wonderful it is now, God is going to remodel both heaven and earth.  I know there have been times my wife wanted to repaint or do major changes to a room while my opinion was room is perfect just like it is.  But it had been 30 years, so we made changes.

I’m sure God has good reason to change heaven, which we don’t know.  But I suspect a big reason is the separation between heaven and earth will be removed because satan’s influence will no longer be present corrupting the earth and its inhabitants.  A new earth without oceans and lakes.  Did you notice that?    Such discussion generates curiosity and more questions than can be answered.   However, we know God is Good and is a Perfect Designer and builder so however the “New Heaven and New Earth” change and “improve”, they will be perfect for you and me.  So will the new bodies He is also planning for us.  Likewise, a New Jerusalem 1500 miles wide x 1500 miles high x 1500 miles deep.  Such a large building/city would not be practical today even if it could be built.  Think about how long it would take to walk or take an elevator or even be transported by a vehicle from one end to another.  But our new bodies will not be so limited to cause this to be a problem.

I don’t have the answers to my questions, so am sure I don’t for yours either.  So, I must settle for simply trusting He will provide what is best and perfect to make us and our new home on earth and in heaven truly PERFECT.  Both will feel and be more like home to us than even our favorite place on earth is now.  Today we are limited by frail bodies, insufficient finances, limited knowledge and education, limited skills and time, limited by distractions and other interests and selfish – sinful passions, limited by impact of sin in the world.   Then, all these limits will be removed and we will be able to praise and worship Him properly, able to fellowship with friends and family and ancestors and saints from times past – even ancient times, able to move freely without physical limitation, able to work without limits of fatigue and age, able to serve Him without distractions of sin and temptations, able to live and thrive in a perfect sinless home and place.

Such contemplations make any pain or suffering we endure even for a few years here less significant and discouraging because our new bodies and the new heaven and earth will not only be infinitely more wonderful, but eternal for us!  AMEN?  AMEN!

A great misconception carried by many Christians has to do with the location of heaven. The word heaven itself implies that our eternal destiny is somewhere “up there” in the heavens. But the Bible says our eternal destiny is earthly, not heavenly. As Peter wrote, we look for a “new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13).

In his vision of the future, the apostle John saw that “new heaven and a new earth,” our new domain being pictured as the New Jerusalem “coming down out of heaven from God” (Revelation 21:1-2). Somehow, at the end of the age, when Christ has returned to reign and inaugurate the eternal state, this earth will be renovated and a new earth will be the result—a new earth full of righteousness in which pain and sorrow will be absent. The beautiful imagery of the New Jerusalem in Revelation 21 lets us know that the new earth will be a place that reflects the glory of God throughout.

Jesus said He was going to prepare a place for you if you belong to Him (John 14:1-4). The New Jerusalem, on the new earth, is that place.
