CARING FOR GOD’S CREATION

                      1-Corinthians-6-19-20

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”   Genesis 1:28

RECOMMENDED SCRIPTURE READING:  I CORINTHIAN 6:19-2019 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

COMMENTS:  Environmental responsibility is a global focus and government focus in many countries. Climate warming, garbage finding it’s way into oceans and land fills overloaded with plastic and other garbage that is not bio-degradeable are becoming worse and worse problems.  The amount of such is still growing and the number of people and organizations creating this garbage is mind-boggling.  Yet progress is still happening.   Such overwhelming problems  take time to fix but is only hopeless if we do not try.  So what can you and I do.   We can reduce garbage we create, use recycling centers, don’t buy things we don’t need and repair things we do need instead of throwing them away and buying new.  We do live in a throw away but that is starting to change.

If we look at WWII era, tire recycling, conservative consumption and commodity rationing were necessary so manufacturing resource could give priority to supporting needs of Allied troups and forces.  Sacrifice was necessary by both troups and civilian citizens.  That worked well and success of war effort is now recorded in history.

But caring for God’s creation responsibly is not just limited to the earth.  Also included is human and animal and even plant life.  God gave Adam (and Eve) and their descendants responsibility to rule over, oversee, and care for life.  But what about our spiritual life and health?  Christ dies and was resurrected to provide the way of forgiveness and redemption.  To provide passage to heaven and eternal life.  One day soon Christ will return with full power and authority to  rule and bind satan and his followers so they  can no longer do their damage and spreading death and suffering . They can no longer deceive people and people will experience life and a “remodeled” earth as God intended and originally created.   Christ will not only fix the environmental mess people created, but also the spiritual mess people, influenced by satan, created.

When you see opportunities to care for creation—nature or your own body—do so as a way of glorifying the Creator. As an act of love and praise.  As an act of worship and gratitude.  As an act of obedience and service to the God we service and love who also loves and provides for us.

The creation is both a monument of God’s power, and a looking-glass in which we may see his wisdom.  Thomas Watson
