Promises Kept

 God keeps His Promises

Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised. There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through His servant Moses.  1 Kings 8:56

RECOMMENDED SCRIPTURE  2 Peter 1:2-21 “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

COMMENTS:  God’s promises are always best for us and always sure.  God always keeps His promises but delays them and on rare occasion cancels them when we refused to keep our ends, breaking the covenant we make with God.  God’s promise to take Israel from Egypt to the promised l and was delayed 40 years because the people chose to not trust God to protect them against the giants who inhabited that land.  They heard the reports from the spies of the land’s wealth but also the giants there.   If they had trusted God enough to enter the promised land based on   Joshua and Caleb’s report, they would have enjoyed the land and seen God’s hand of protection.  The generation that saw the parting of the   Red Sea and the Pillar of Fire would have seen conquest of the land of the giants.  Their children would have had a better example to follow and so would we.

God not only wants to make a covenant with us but partner with us in doing wonderful life changing things that positively impact people forever.  He offers His abiding presence to help and strengthen and encourage us but also to protect us.  We face temptation and suffering and even tragedy not to destroy us, as satan tries to do, but to strengthen us and teach us to rely on and follow Him more closely.  Satan is the designer and source of temptation and suffering and tragedy, but God allows such within limits in order to strengthen us and prepare us for greater things.  The Israelites were protected from death from Pharaoh’s army and drowning in the Red Sea by God’s miracles.  But they still had to walk through the Red Sea and through the desert to get to the promised land.  Even punishment from disobedience, severe at times, still served to convince and motivate them into greater depths of obedience.

God doesn’t ask much of us compared with what He gives and provides and offers us.  BUT WHAT HE DOES ASK OF US IS NOT OPTIONAL.  IT IS REQUIRED!

With obedience comes wisdom and discernment and knowledge and fellowship with Him.  With obedience comes a far better and joyful life with purpose.

The progression of growth, for the Christian is:

  1. Fellowship with Christ brings life and godliness
  2. Fellowship with Christ brings knowledge of Him
  3. Knowledge of Him calls us to glory and virtue
  4. Knowledge of Him calls us to discover and embrace His promises
  5. Knowledge of Him call us to begin demonstrating some of the divine nature of God, imitating His character, as we move away from the influence and impact of corruption from evil and lust rampant in this world.
  6. Knowledge of Him calls us to temperance, from temperance patience, and from patience godliness.
  7. As influence of Christ increases, making us more like Him, we begin to demonstrate brotherly kindness and charity. Characteristics that are not superficial or forced but a natural – consistent part of our very nature and character both in private and in public.

The purpose of the transforming presence of Christ is to change us to become more like Him.  To make us more usable and dependable and valuable in ministry.  As we become more dependable and faithful and closer to Him, He will reveal deeper and amazing revelations.  For some such revelation will come in the form of deeper insights into His Word.  For some insights will come in the form of clearer direction in making life decisions and even daily choices.  For some a clearer life of integrity drawing others to admire and seek to duplicate.  For some the capacity to love and give and show compassion.    Of course, those who draw close toss Christ will demonstrate all the above, but one of two will dominate and stand out above others.

If we are living in the latter days and if Christ’s return is imminent, then being prepared for His return, being effective in using the remaining time we have before His return wisely and effectively in positively influencing others are all vitally important.  So, if we are faithful to Him and spend quality time with Him frequently and daily, we will also be open for Him to prepare us and guide us daily in doing His work as we go about our normal day doing our normal daily tasks and meeting our daily obligations and responsibilities.

All this is wonderful but totally up to us.   God has so much He wants to tell us and give us, but we must be willing to spend time with Him and accept His gifts.  We must be willing to use those gifts too with Him at our side.  AMEN?  AMEN!

God promises to keep His people, and He will keep His promises.
