Victory in Him

2 corinthians 2,11

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ 1 Corinthians 15:57
Recommended Reading: 2 Corinthians 2:1-17 “1 So I made up my mind that I would not make another painful visit to you. 2 For if I grieve you, who is left to make me glad but you whom I have grieved? 3 I wrote as I did, so that when I came I would not be distressed by those who should have made me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would all share my joy. 4 For I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to grieve you but to let you know the depth of my love for you. Forgiveness for the Offender 5 If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you to some extent—not to put it too severely. 6 The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient. 7 Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. 9 Another reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. 10 Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. Ministers of the New Covenant 12 Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and found that the Lord had opened a door for me, 13 I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia. 14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15 For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task? 17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.”
COMMENTS: Have you ever working on a project or task and discovered someone spoiled a part of it or maybe even you failed to properly complete a needed step before moving on to the next step. I have and can confirm the wisdom of going back to complete that step properly before going any further. To ignore that flawed step thinking I can address it later will usually just render everything done going on flawed and needed fixed also. The work to fix flaw only gets worse if ignored. It is better to seek help if time for completion is running out rather than ignore the flawed discovery.
Paul learned this as well and had to stop and fix damaged done to churches he established. Damage caused by misguided or evil motivated evangelist imitators or damage done directly by those in the church failing to resist satan’s temptations.
On more than one occasion, a conflict developed in our church a number of years ago while I was pastor-parish relations chairman. I knew of conflict and delayed action because I was hopeful parties would resolve their own dispute and forgive. Other reason was I hadn’t concluded the proper way of addressing dispute. Parties became entrenched and neither saw the damage they were doing to themselves and others. Finally, I realized I had to do something so called the District Superintendent for council, which was a very good first step. He gave me wise council, which I followed based on Matthew 18:15-18.
I encountered 3 major conflicts at a time our church was growing in number. The unfortunate result was both parties refused to repent when both had fault. The end result was one left and church was weaker. If conflict would have been resolved with forgiveness, then healing would have resulted and church would have continued to grow both spiritually and in number.
Recently a young church in neighborhood, which was started a couple of years ago and was growing in size to a congregation larger than any other in community, encountered a dispute than was unresolved. Within 2 years that congregation evaporated and church was closed. It was easier to just leave than to face and resolve the conflict. There was no commitment nor history to motivate taking a path to healing that God desired.
Well, likely those who left carried their sinful attitudes to their new church putting that church at risk of conflict with division resulting. Do you see the parallel of these examples to issues Paul encountered as he established and nurtured new churches in his outreach? Satan won’t bother to cause conflict in a dead church. He will focus his attention to churches that are a threat to him, so we shouldn’t be surprised if we see that happen.
So, we should ask ourselves if we are part of the problem or part of the solution? Are we adding to the conflict or are we resolving it? Being right or wrong on position we take or the side of debate we are on is not relevant! It is all about getting to the point of seeking and giving forgiveness and getting back to worship and praising God and guiding others to do so too. We would do far better if our church congregations would not only know but believe that and start practicing that truth.
Is there unresolved conflict in our family or community or church or at work? What would God have you do? Does He want you to back off from “being on the right side” to start “being on His side”. AMEN? AMEN!
If you need a victory in your life, begin every day by renewing your faith in Christ in whom all our victories are to be realized. The spiritual battle, the loss of victory, is always in the thought-world. Francis Schaeffer
