Never Alone

                                                                                     Hebrews_13-5

For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”    Hebrews 13:5

Recommended Reading: Matthew 28:18-20  “18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

COMMENTS:  God is One in Mind and Thought and Purpose.  He is One in all Ways, so there is nothing Christ has said or done that the Father and Holy Spirit does not fully agree and support with.    When we pray, Christ is our advocate to the Father so we are viewed by Him as righteous and worthy to approach His throne of Grace.  But when we pray, we are addressing and speaking to the Father and Son and Holy Spirit even when our minds are centered on Jesus.  The Holy Spirit is available to us all the time and is closest to us so we can sense His abiding presence and understand His Word and sense His responses to our prayers.   We can sense His council and warnings and comfort and strength and encouragement during danger or temptation or uncertainty.    The Holy Spirit came at Pentecost so believers can enjoy a personal relationship with God even more so than the 12 disciples enjoyed during the 3 years of Jesus’ ministry.  The courage and boldness and wisdom and discernment they demonstrated after Pentecost proves that transformation.  Evidence in lives of persecuted Christians in every generation since also proves that same transformation.  We, today, have available that same Holy Spirit to transform and empower every willing believer also.   The Holy Spirit, as part of the God Head, is our way of personally knowing and fellowshipping with Christ and with the Father.  To know the Holy Spirit is to know Christ and to know the Father.

Modern technology has made it possible to talk to anyone pretty much anywhere on the earth anytime by nearly everyone.  Likewise, the ability to track location of person talking on a cell phone is also possible.  Such technology was not imagined by even scientists and science fiction writers 100 years ago.

But God has always been available to fellowship with and communicate with His followers anytime and anywhere without appointment.    Pentecost has made such communication easier and more common but there were those who had such a personal daily connection with God even in old testament times.  Yet, before Easter, an animal sacrifice was needed to enable the Father’s redemption and forgiveness to be granted, allowing a personal fellowship with Him.   Sin was and still is a barrier that keeps us from such a relationship, but remaining barriers are self-installed and not God installed. He still offers to tear them down if we invite His forgiveness and ask Him to.

In the Old Testament times, scripture gave God’s promise to His follower: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” That was God’s promise to the Israelites as they prepared to cross the Jordan River and move into Canaan—and face the Canaanite tribes that occupied their land (Deuteronomy 31:6). God’s presence was one of protection.

But in the New Testament, the same promise of God was applied to provision. The writer of Hebrews told his readers not to be covetous but to be content with what they had. Why? Because God would be their provision. He would be with them and never leave them.

Whether you need protection, provision, or something else—you have it in the God who has promised to always be with you.
