Freedom Seekers

“If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  John 8:32

Recommended Reading: JOHN 8:31-4731 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. 38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.[a]39 “Abraham is our father,” they answered.“If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would[b] do what Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the works of your own father.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

COMMENTS:  Storms, whether at sea or on land, can come upon us quickly at with life threatening force.  Hurricanes usually gives sufficient warning for inhabitants to escape but not always.  Those refusing to escape or with insufficient time to do so must seek shelter in the basements of nearby buildings or shelters.  Conversely, ships at sea encountering large severe storms must either seek land.  An experienced captain may be able to navigate the storm if his experience and severity of storm are in line.  An anchor may be a wise course of action but not always because the anchor may not hold in a severe storm and waves are large enough that anchor may actually pull ship below top of the wave.   Past experience provides wisdom when choosing the right course of action.  But such experience if often insufficient and imperfect.

Feelings or emotions are like forces at sea creating small or large waves on the ships of our lives.  Staying afloat requires a sharp aware of them and understand of their source as well as wisdom on how to react or deal with them.  Not all emotions are evil.  They provide energy and motivation and strength either for good or for evil.  How well we manage them depends on the anchor we find and use to hold or stabilize us.  Or the rock or land we find escape and refuse and shelter at.

Thank God we do have such a rock and refuge and shelter.  One that does not change in message or in location.   God’s word is such a source of wisdom.  His Holy Spirit helps us understand and apply His Word to our needs and application.  His Word and His Truth and His Commands remain stable and unchanged.  Our situations may change but His Wisdom, even though unchanged, still remains current and applicable to each issue and circumstance applied to.  They bring life and healing and freedom instead of death and sickness and slavery, as does satan’s lures and temptation and council.    The reason is that God always provides and acts and councils and helps us out of a deep love for and desire to be in fellowship with us.  By contrast, satan hates us almost as much as he hates God and only is motivated to hurt Him by hurting us.   We are viewed by satan as ponds to fulfill his goal of taking power from God and becoming the authority over Him.  How foolish he is to think he could outsmart or overpower God.  But then again, his pride and arrogance continues to blind him against his own foolishness and folly.

WE DARE NOT LET SATAN DECEIVE US TO BELIEVE HIS FOLLY AND PRIDEFUL LIES AND DECEPTIONS THAT WILL RESULT IN SHARING IN GOD’S JUDGMENT OF SATAN AND HIS ANGELS AND FOLLOWERS.

God loves us enough to suffer and die for our redemption.  But He can’t allow sin into heaven or into the kingdom He will be returning to restore, so He must judge and remove satan and his followers and cast them in a place divorced from God.  That is why such a place will be so terrible.

We have sufficient warning and sufficient opportunity to repent and get back on the right path – a path to life instead of a life to judgment and misery and torment.

The remedy for discouragement is the Word of God. When you feed your heart and mind with its truth, you regain your perspective and find renewed strength.”
