Jesus as Human and Jesus as God

Revelation 1,12-18

Revelation 1:12-18 – “Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a Son of Man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around His chest. The hairs of His head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, His feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and His voice was like the roar of many waters. In His right hand He held seven stars, from His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and His face was like the sun shining in full strength. When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as though dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living One. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and Hades.”
COMMENTS: How do we visualize Jesus? We often visualize Jesus as looking like any other male Jew of His day. Dark skinned and brown eyes and dark hair and, of course, with a beard.
Below are two pictures showing how artist envisioned Jesus to look like. The top is an older drawing but next drawing is based on experience of a number of individuals who died for a brief time and returned. Their account of Jesus seems to concur that He looks like this. They all commented on impact of His eyes and compassion His eyes show. Well, no one this side of the grave can tells us honestly and accurately what Jesus looks like, but one thing is for sure. HE KNOWS AND LOVES US LIKE NONE OTHER AND WILL BE AT HEAVEN’S DOOR TO GREET US IF WE ACCEPT HIS GIFT OF FORGIVENESS.
But Jesus will have another role and impression, as described by John in Revelation. Instead of looking like a loving older brother or a dear friend, John describes Him in a more authorative, powerful and divine way. Well, those who refuse His mercy will see Him as their Judge instead of as their Savior. His eyes will not be the eyes of a loving Savior but of the Judge condemning them to hell.
We hear so many say a loving God will not condemn anyone to hell, but scripture warns us God requires a sinless life in order to gain admission to heaven. NO ONE IS SINLESS SO WE ALL DESERVE HELL! Jesus has done all He could and all that is needed. He paid dearly so we can be forgiven all our sins by simply asking and receiving His gift of forgiveness. The cost to us is little by great to Him. His death on Good Friday paid the price required by the Father for our sins. His Resurrection on Easter Sunday restored Him to His divine position and confirmed His victory over satan and over death. He is the first Resurrection, so His promise of resurrection for each of us is sure.
Jesus will be obligated to judge and condemn those who refuse His redemption.
Like it or not, Jesus is God and has full power and authority to forgive or judge who He will. He will judge satan and his followers to eternal punishment without appeal or opportunity for redemption. The parable of Lazarus and the rich man Jesus told reveals this. No, Jesus has given us every opportunity to repent but not without a warning to repent while opportunity is available. Before death or the hardness of our heart prevent us.
How are we to respond to such a God? One moment we seek comfort in Him; the next we fall at His feet in awe. It is hard to reconcile these two responses, and yet both are real—both are valid—both are right. And maybe we don’t need to reconcile these responses, but instead to trust the Holy Spirit to guide our entire faithful response to Jesus, at all times and in all places. For Jesus is our awesome God and Maker; He is also our loving Savior, who died and rose for us.
THE PRAYER: Holy Lord, you are both merciful and awesome. Help me to trust in You always. Amen
