Easter Sunday

                                            1corinthians15-3-4

But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.  1 Corinthians 15:20

RECOMMENDED READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 15:51-58  “51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

COMMENTS:  Paul was at Ephesus for what was to be a 3-year stay building a church there when he heard there was trouble in Corinth.   Disunity and carnality were growing.  Some were not accepting resurrection of the believer’s body.  False teachers were spreading false doctrine, likely either Sadducees or students of their believes, deny the doctrine of eternal life with heaven as the final destination of the believer.   He chose to write this letter to clarify and convince skeptics that the Resurrection of Jesus Christ guarantees that those who belong to Him will also be resurrected with a new body like His resurrected body.

Paul emphasized just how vital resurrection of the believer is to his faith and hope for the future (1 Corinthians 15:2,14,19).  If Jesus hadn’t raised from the dead, the required price of sacrifice would have remained uncertain and Christ’s victory over satan uncertain as well.  Also, hope of eternal life with a new eternal body would be uncertain for the believer too. Even the claims Jesus gave of being God’s Son and equal to the Father would be in doubt.

BUT JESUS DID RISE FROM THE DEAD AS WITNESSED BY HUNDREDS OF WITNESSES! (1 Corinthians 15:3-8).  Paul also said that the resurrection of our bodies will follow Christ’s “each in his own order” (1 Corinthians 15:23).  Yes, the Resurrection is certain and specifically promised by Christ.  His own resurrection shows us He is able too.

On this Easter Sunday, take heart! Your hope for eternity is certain and so is His promise of a new better eternal body.  A body free of sickness and aging and death, because it will be free from satan’s evil and God’s judgment.    AMEN?  AMEN!
