From Success to Significance

                    Daniel 10,12

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down.
Daniel 4:37

RECOMMENDED READING: MATTHEW 6:32-34  “32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble..”

COMMENTS:  Nebuchadnezzar was the greatest and most feared tyrant king of his day.  He ruled the greatest kingdom with the most wealth and power of his day.  The gardens of Babylon were one of the recorded “wonders of the world “God used Babylon to judge Israel’s sin by enslaving them and taking them away from their land to indoctrinate them in Babylonian culture and pagan beliefs.  Daniel and his 3 friends were among them taken from their home and family as children or at most young teens.  But their upbringing was solid as was their deep faith in God, resulting in a solid resolve to not defile themselves with customs or beliefs contrary to God’s laws and ordinances.  Their resolve put them in great danger but God consistently protected them from Nebuchadnezzar’s anger and rash judgments.  Slowly over time Nebuchadnezzar learned to trust and respect and even rely on the wisdom and integrity and dependability they demonstrated above all his other advisors and subjects.  But he still succumbed to his own pride and arrogance and lifted his own accomplishments above God and praised himself over God.  God had used these 4 men to reveal Himself to Nebuchadnezzar so such an offence was no longer tolerated by God, who immediately struck Nebuchadnezzar with insanity and caused him to act and eat and function like a wild animal.  But God was merciful and preserved His life and kingdom for him for the 7 years he endured insanity.   But one day he lifted his eyes to heaven and submitted   to God and gave God praise and worship. He surrendered his pride and will, as must we all to find and have a real relationship with Him too.  Daniel 4 records his experience and his surrender.   God then restored his kingdom and sanity to him, but with a new outlook and personality and purpose.  I can only imagine how his rule changed after that, changed for the good!! AMEN?

Many successful men and women have discovered midway through their careers that power and wealth and popularity and respect and even health are not enough to fulfill a deep hunger in our souls for value and purpose and fulfillment of a deep calling.  All too many go through their entire lives tragically never discovering and fulfilling that purpose and calling they ached to do.   They either refused out of fear or pride or selfishness or failed to seek from the source of their purpose that loves and knows them like none other.   Christ has our best in mind and knows we are mind set on going down a dangerous self-destructive path with no good conclusion.

If God is God and man is made in His image, then each man is significant.
