Waiting With Certainty

Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!
Psalm 27:14

RECOMMENDED READING: Isaiah 40:3131 But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”

COMMENTS:  Waiting is necessary to reach goal but not idle waiting.  Waiting 9 months for the birth of a child also requires the mother making sure she provides sufficient nourishment for the baby growing inside her.  That time also gives her opportunity to prepare to care for the child after birth.

School graduation only becomes a realistic goal by doing the school work to meet graduation requirements.  Waiting but waiting while working towards that goal.

Waiting for an event like a birthday or anniversary or Christmas or another holiday may require less work but still requires preparation in order to enjoy all the blessings that day brings. Preparations include preparation for meals and gift exchanges and parties that are traditions of those times. Preparation also includes nurturing personal relationships with family and friends who participate in those activities.

But what about “the reason for observing those holidays?”  What about Christ, who’s birthday we celebrate at Christmas and death and resurrection of Christ we observe on Easter.  What about nurturing our personal relationship with Christ?  We are approaching Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent – the time of preparation for Easter.

So, what events or goals are you waiting for?   What events are you preparing for?

What should we do to prepare for Lent and Easter?  What should we do while waiting for Christ’s return?  We have every reason to wait with confidence and certainty of Christ’s return.  His return could be today or this year or may not be for another 100 years.  But I believe His return in soon and maybe even imminent.  To not prepare for His return is foolish and will have consequences.  Consequences of possibly being left behind, but also regrets of not warning and helping loved ones and others we care for so they would not be left behind.

Bible prophecy warns of dangerous times coming.  Times when to be a faithful Christian will bring certainty of persecution or even execution.  Preparing for those times will enable us to endure those terrible times while still showing and encouraging others to have and share the unshakeable hope that only Christ can give.

Are you looking to the future, unsure of what it holds? Trust in the Lord (Proverbs 3:5-6). Receive His strength for your heart as you wait upon Him.  No need to wait alone or without hope and confidence.  He provides His Holy Spirit to guide and wait with us.  We have everything to gain.

“The great secret of a right waiting upon God is to be brought down to utter impotence. “
Andrew Murray
