Turning over a New Leaf

 1 corinthians 9,19-23

By all means save some.   1 Corinthians 9:22

RECOMMENDED READING: 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 “19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; 20 and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; 22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.”

COMMENTS:  We live in the age of many marvels of technologies, which has enabled us to travel and talk and witness events and sights and people all over the world.  Such was not possible even by the wealthiest and most powerful leaders and celebrities of years past.   Such technology is not only available but affordable by the poor of most countries too.

The average person spends a total of 5 years of his life on social media currently and trend is increasing.  The average teen spends 9 hours per day on social media, so the addiction and obsession is becoming stronger and more of a problem.  But similar trends are evident from previous generations too.  Over 50 year olds  spend 50+ hours per  week watching television while those in their 20’s and 30’s spend 27 hours per week, but difference relates to more time on social media so technology is consuming much of the time of all living generations today.

So, wasting time has become epidemic today, taking away from productive work and developing and maintaining meaningful relationships, especially with loved ones and most of all with God.  Consequence is an epidemic increase in ignorance and indifference towards the Bible and towards the Christian faith and towards God because most don’t think about or talk to God or seek His council.  They would rather seek advice from an unknown and unproven source on social media instead of from God’s proven Word and Holy Spirit readily available.

So, how about we resist and turn from the trends driving society and most and only use social media with purpose and for good and for a special goal instead of mindlessly using it for enjoyment or to fill in idle time.  Free up more time to visit shut-ins, to visit or call family or friends not visited for awhile. To do productive work to benefit others or even to benefit yourself.  To volunteer at local food pantries or other organizations that outreach to others in need in your community.  To spend time with God seeking His Will and to understand and seek to become more like Him.  To show Christ’s love and offer a lifeline to Him towards others.  To finish each day accomplishing something and leaving each day better than you started it.

Social Media is a new and wonderful tool to share the gospel, as I have discovered but still doesn’t substitute for one – on –one opportunities God still gives each of us to impact the life of someone He puts in our path.  AMEN?  AMEN!

Turn your social media into social ministry, and let’s use “all means” to save some.

“Turn a new leaf for me, Father I pray; / Turn a new leaf in my life-book today; / Pardon me graciously, Deal with me wondrously, / Turn a new leaf in my life-book today.”
