Good Things

He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.  Proverbs 18:22

RECOMMENDED READING: 1 John 4:7-12Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. been perfected in us.

COMMENTS:  God always gives good to us, even when that good doesn’t seem good for awhile.  But what ends up being good from Him often didn’t start out as being from Him in the beginning, but He made evil / sinful choices end up being good (Romans 8:28-29).

Lets consider an example of an abusive man who hurts his wife and child when he is drunk.   Do these scripture mean we should allow the abuser to do harm to his family unrestrained?  Of course not.  His wife and child needs to seek help and get away from danger this husband and father inflicts on his family and also that family needs to seek help for that man.  If he doesn’t accept that help is his choice but protection for his family becomes immediate priority.  Love them is demonstrated in a different way from loving the offending man.  Loving the family must give priority to protecting them while love the man must include offering help and even restraint to that man.  Offenders usually regret their actions done in the heat of anger and under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Satan has a sinister way of using bad habits or choices – either emotions or actions to lead many to do and say hurtful things they would not have done with proper thought and consideration.   Left to our own strength and wills, we all are not strong enough and determined enough nor experienced – wise enough  to successfully fight satan alone, BUT CHRIST IS!  HE HAS ALREADY DONE SO ON THE CROSS!  HE FOUGHT SATAN ALONE AND DEFEATED HIM SO WE DON’T HAVE TO FIGHT HIM ALONE!

He doesn’t want us to settle for just depending on Him to use our sinful thoughts and actions for good but to change us to do good things and discipline our thoughts to be good thoughts.  He knows we can’t accomplish this alone so offers us His Forgiveness to provide a fresh start and His Holy Spirit  24x7x365 so we don’t face satan alone or unprepared.  He only provides what we are willing to accept so WHEN WE FAIL IT IS BECAUSE WE CHOSE NOT TO ACCEPT ALL HIS HELP AND RESOURCES HE MAKES AVAILABLE TO US!  That is important to realize so we do accept all His resources so we can be successful in fighting satan and make progress in becoming more Christ-like and Him to use Good Choices for our Good and for other’s Good too.  After all, greater and better good is done by Him for good actions than from poor actions and choices.

Moses told the Israelites, “So you shall rejoice in every good thing which the Lord your God has given to you and your house” (Deuteronomy 26:11). Joshua told them, “Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken” (Joshua 21:45). The psalmist said in Psalm 34:10, “Those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.”  Psalm 84:11 adds, “No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

Paul told Timothy, “That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit” (2 Timothy 1:14).

Men, you’ll never be a good groom to your wife unless you’re first a good bride to Jesus.”
