Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18

Recommended Reading:  1 Corinthians 10:13-14 813 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.”

COMMENTS:  Flee is a term used to describe a quick and rapid escape from imminent danger in order to avoid being overpowered by that danger causing harm or death. Fleeing from a hungry lion or from an approaching tornado or forest fire would certainly apply.   The world “flee” is used 81 times in the Old Testament applying mostly to escaping to save one’s life. Most instances relate to escaping a stronger invading army or force.

This term is also used 14 times in the New Testament but more commonly refers to escaping from spiritual dangers mostly.  Yet, the danger referred to temptations put upon unsuspecting victims perpetrated by our common enemy, satan.    Paul specifically identifies sexual immorality as the dangerous temptation best fled from instead of facing and resisting.  Paul indicates this temptation is too powerful and seductive to face alone, so best course of action is always to flee from it and run to Christ when temptation is encountered.  Stop and reflect the damage sexual immorality has done to marriages and families, especially to children as victims.  Harm is seldom to never just limited to guilty parties.  How many ministers or missionaries along with their church and ministry have been destroyed by immorality?  An older pastor was reported to keep a book listing the pastors destroyed by allowing sexual immorality to enter their lives, acting on its temptations.  He indicated the list was over 100 and all started out innocently enough on the outside but leading to a choice(s) that resulting in sin not judged possible up to that time.  The negative impact on their relationship with God was not even noticed by them and hides from others until sin was deeply entrenched and hardened into the souls of the parties involved.   Few other sins are so deceptive.  Yet pride falls in that category too.  That is why God tells us to run instead of facing this temptation.  He knows and understands our weaknesses and provides a means and way of escape so we can experience a far better and happier way, a way He designed and prepares us for.  The way of marriage and family instead of immorality and broken families.  How many families do you know that are happy and enduring?  How many do you know that are filled with broken promises and regrets?    How many children are broken as a result?  I dare say most know as many If not more families broken as stable and secure.  God’s ways are always best – best for us and best for those we care about – even best for those we don’t especially like or even consider enemies.  But obedience is more than just running from temptation.  Obedience includes running to Him for help and encouragement.  He is available 24x7x365 – never too busy or distracted from focusing on us. All we need to do is turn and run to Him and take His hand.  Then put and keep our eyes on Him.

Thankfully, God provides a way of escape from the temptation to sin (1 Corinthians 10:13). When you are tempted, look for the way He provides to flee.
