The Heart of Life

                                                       Deut 31,8

Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23

RECOMMENDED SCRIPTURE READING: PHILIPPIANS 4:6-10Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.”

COMMENTS: A source of pure clean water is essential to life.  Communities can not sustain life without it.  Wars have been won by gaining control of sources of water.  Fortified walled cities can not win or remain safe without it.  Likewise, the slightest amount of poison or contamination will render huge amounts of water unusable and dangerous.  Water is second only to air / oxygen on list of human necessities.  Stop and think how well God provides both in abundance.  Man can and has captured and charged huge amounts of money to supply water to groups of people but air is free to and available to all.  We can go a few days without water but no one can go more than a few minutes without healthy air.  But air too can be contaminated by small amounts of poison or pollutants too.

Likewise, God has designed us to live and thrive with the spiritual food and air and water He makes freely available to us through His Word and His Holy Spirit.  That life begins the day we accept His free gift of forgiveness and redemption Christ sacrificed and paid for us to have.  This gift is life changing for now and eternity and without cost to us, but does require that we accept it in order to enjoy and experience.  His Holy Spirit provides life giving water and food to sustain that life and grow stronger in our relationship with Him and healthier in our spirits.   Satan can still contaminate / poison us by feeding us that poison but we must eat and drink his poison by our choice.  He makes his poison look and taste good but becomes bitter and causes death.  The Holy Spirit warns us and His Word shows us consequences of those before us who ate satan’s evil food and drank his water.                                                                                                    As humans, we are extremely weak and vulnerable and fragile.  Consider how easily we can be overpowered or killed or distracted.  Yet our bodies are extremely complex and resilience in healing and repairing damage done to it.  BUT WE SERVE A GOD WHO IS NOT WEAK OR VULNERABLE OR FRAGILE.  HE IS NOT DISTRACTED NOR CAN BE OVERPOWERED OR KILLED.  Christ died as a human, but was resurrected as our Savior and our Lord and King.  He chose to take on human form and human weaknesses and frailty. He had to receive His spiritual strength and nourishment from the Father and not from within Himself even though He was and is divine. How He could do so is a mystery but did so in order to become our sacrifice and redeemer.   We don’t need to understand this and really can’t, but we can enjoy the benefits of that mystery.  Let’s reflect and respond with gratitude and praise and worship to Him.  Afterall, He is our Creator, our Savior, our source of life (both mortal life and eternal life), our truest and dearest friend and mentor.  We are totally dependent on Him, like it or not.  AMEN!
