Mean Nasty People

Matthew 5,7

“Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.” Matthew 5:7

COMMENTS:  Have you ever encountered a bully or a mean nasty person trying to pick a fight or argument or appearing to deliberately trying to make you angry or miserable?  Even trying to hurt you or worse?  Our natural reaction is to respond in kind.  To get even or hurt them in response.  How about when they are trying to hurt someone else, especially a loved one?  Does that make our reaction more justified?

Granted, taking action to protect or prevent physical harm should take priority.  Getting police or help in preventing physical harm is important and necessary.  But what about situations more common and less hostile but still down out mean and hurtful?  Do we try to look beyond the outward words to discover what is motivating those words and action?  Is there a tragic circumstance or deep grief behind such poor conduct?  Have you been guilty of mistreating a friend or loved one because of pain or disappointment of a circumstance or loss you suffered and are hurting and grieving over?  Being in a bad mood or grieving over a loss is not excuse for bad behavior but knowing that does help us understand and respond with more compassion and discernment.  It helps us seek God’s wisdom and take opportunity to respond in a better and more helpful and healing way.  In a way God would have us respond and in a way that would help guide the offender to Him for help instead of reacting to anyone they encounter with anger and poor behavior.

Just stop and reflect on times we have offended or hurt someone and respond as we would like to receive.  Consider the “Golden Rule” Matthew 7:12 “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” A value rule, just a bit hard to follow at times, but still vital to build solid healthy relationships and is what Christ has called us to do.  AMEN?  AMEN!
