Becoming Like Who or What We Worship

2 CORINTHIANS 3,18

We all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory… by the Spirit of the Lord.  2 Corinthians 3:18

Recommended Reading: 2 Corinthians 3:12-18  “12 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech— 13 unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

COMMENTS: Who or what is your God?   God, our Creator, put inside each of us a need, a hunger, to connect with Him.  Even those who never hear the Gospel message or read the Bible or hear about God have an unsatisfied itch or hunger to connect with their Creator.  If they don’t connect with Him out of ignorance or out of rebellion, they will seek and find someone or something to worship.  Every tribe, every nation, every race from every generation has or is worshipping someone or something.  Pagan religions were created by someone or group who felt inspired to create a new religion.  They each have an individual who started that religion and following.  But both they and the god they follow were flawed and demonstrated those flaws.  Even atheists and humanists, who deny any god follow materialism or power or success or money or pleasure or leisure or security or even striving for a long healthy life as their purpose for living and what they strive to possess above all else.   What consumes most of our time is our god.  Today video games and cell phones and internet browsing have become a god to millions of all ages.

So why would Christianity be any truer or better a religion?   Lennon said religion is the opium of the masses, denying all forms of religion.  But he too worshipped a god too, the god of power and control.

Well, for one thing our Bible was written by 40 people over 1600 years.  The virtues and attributes and powers and demonstration of love and forgiveness revealed about God and sacrifice Christ paid exceed what we humans could imagine or describe.  Who could imagine a god who is omnipresent or omnipotent or all knowing?  A god who is perfect without equal and without sin or evil thought.  A god who abide with and within those who are open to receive to guide and help and strengthen.  But the God of the Bible and the God of Christianity is such a God.   A God who created all and not a god man imagined and created.

Jesus said (John 14:1-11) “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.”

Note that Jesus stated (John 14:6) that He is the only way to God the Father.  Salvation is not available through any other religion or way.  No amount of good works or discipline will earn us a way to heaven.  Good works are a response of gratitude and worship for His salvation. But salvation is a free gift that, once received, enables us to do good works with joy equipped with His presence to help us be successful.  Who could have imagined or created such a god as Our God?  The answer is no one could nor did!!

When we study the attributes of God, the one that stands out is God is Holy.  Webster’s Dictionary defines Holy as exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness” God is worthy of our worship and obedience because He is Holy.  It is not about us but about Him.  God offers us so much but we serve Him not for what we gain but in order to please Him.  That is our motivation, a much stronger and worthy motivation.  Our motivation is also is so others might know and worship Him too.  What do other religions teach.  To destroy their enemies, not forgive them.  To hate their enemies, not love them.

So, who or what is your god?  AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE, WE WILL FOLLOW GOD.  CHRIST IS OUR LORD AND SAVIOR.  HOW ABOUT YOU?

“We tend by a secret law of the soul to move toward our mental image of God.”
