james 2,23

And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.     James 2:23

COMMENTS: Friendships are an important relationship.  Friendship requires mutual trust and respect, a desire to help and encourage each other.  Friendship expects each to have best interest of other even if correction or constructive criticism is needed.   Facebook, however, has diminished the definition and commitment of “friend” to only be a connection for communication with little or no commitment emotionally or personally.  Facebook has limited number of friends per user to 5000, far above number possible personally.  I am approaching that number on my Facebook page, intending Facebook to be a distribution and connection point to share my devotional blog with more broadly.  My desire and intent are to share the Gospel and help equip and encourage other Christians thru my blog devotional.  It has reached seekers and Christians in a good number of countries overseas as well as many in USA regularly.

The Bible, however, gives a much stronger and defined definition and commitment to friendships. Christ identifies Himself as our Friend, laying down His life for us.  He also identified Abraham as His friend (2 Chronicles 20:7, Isaiah 41:8, James 2:23).  God identifies “Friend” to be a term for covenant identifying the trust and commitment and loyalty between God and his created human beings.  Likewise, fruitfulness and blessing enjoyed from that covenant.  God benefits by enjoying being loving and being loved by His creation.  We enjoy eternal life in fellowship with Him and with each other and in our eternal home and in our eternal bodies.  We get a far better deal from covenant than God does, but He isn’t complaining or disappointed because He gets what He desires the most, us…
