The Blame Game

james 1,13

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.  James 1:13

RECOMMENDED READING: ECCLESIASTES 5:1-3  “Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool’s voice is known by multitude of words.”

COMMENTS: You and I make a common error in presuming to know and understand God’s Will  when at best we only have a partial understanding.  But during times of trial and  tragedy, we are forced to throw out that understanding and choose to either question God with grief and even anger and bitterness or completely surrender to Him in faith and say “Thy Will be done” without knowing why or how long  we must endure such suffering.  Job reveals how long and why Job enduring such suffering but his example does not necessarily give us the reason for our suffering.

Scripture reveals that God does not tempt us to do evil nor is responsible for tragedy and hardship in our lives.  Responsibility, like with Job, falls on satan’s sinister hands and mind.  Satan orchestrates evil in our lives by temptations to us and to others.  God allows satan to do his mischief but within limits of intensity and length of time..  He does not allow satan to tempt us beyond our strength and ability to resist nor longer than we have endurance to sustain.  Job remained faithful enduring more tragedy than we could likely endure but God limited satan’s freedom to what he could endure.  Of course, satan stretched that limit and took advantage of those limits.  But consider how terrible life would be like if satan was allowed to tempt and throw suffering and tragedy on us without restraint.  We have no idea how much worse it would be.   BUT PRAISE GOD THERE ARE LIMITS ON SATAN’S EVIL DEEDS AND WE HAVE GOD’S ABIDING HOLY SPIRIT TO GUIDE/STRENGTHEN/COUNCIL/ENCOURAGE/EMPOWER US TO RESIST AND OVERCOME ANYTHING GOD DOES ALLOW SATAN TO THROW AT US.  Why, because even satan’s evil God  will use to strengthen us and others if we are faithful.

Romans 8:28-29 reassures us God uses even satan’s handiwork for our good and even to fulfill His purpose and plan for our lives.  Satan intends evil to harm us but God uses even his evil put on us to make us stronger in faith and obedience and even in blessing if we are and remain faithful to Him, like Job did.

That doesn’t mean we should seek hardship or ask we endure it longer to make our faith stronger.  Seeking an end of hardship but seeking His help to endure it are appropriate prayers.

The sources of our hardships and suffering and grief and tragedy is satan.  God may permit such with set limits but God is not at fault, satan is.  God may permit it, but will work hard to use what satan intends to harm us to become an experience that will make us strong.
