Powerful Prayers

And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

1 John 2:1

.RECOMMENDED READING:  ROMANS 8:28-3728 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”

COMMENTS:  I recall hearing a testimony from an elderly widow.  She recalled how she prayed for her husband for over 50 years.  He would come home from the local tavern drunk finding her praying. A few months before he died, he yielded to those prayers and accepted Christ and turned from alcohol. He told her that he could no longer run from her prayers nor from God.  It was her faithful example and love for him and her faithful prayers without any evidence of their influence that convinced him that her faith was real and so was God.

When we pray for things or blessings motivated by our selfish desires, we have no assurance God will answer yes to our prayers, but if we pray for the same things God desires and wants, we do have that assurance.  However, we still don’t usually know or have assurance of when other than in God’s perfect timing.  We do have to realize God not only hears and answers our prayers, but also the prayers of millions and millions of others at the same time, many of whom are impacted by our prayers and His answers to us.  So, implementing all these prayer requests in a way that does not hinder positive responses to other’s prayers does take time, especially when God needs to work in our soul and other’s too so our faith and obedience grows and others are drawn to have faith in Him as well.

A mother’s prayers for her children is a powerful force, even more so than a father’s prayers, but God honors both using them to open doors for Him to act.  I believe the reason that God works and responds as we pray is so we too are blessed and draw closer to Him and to each other as a result.

Can you recall times we knew someone was praying for you and could feel their prayers? To know others are praying for us brings great comfort but also gives us assurance we are not alone.  God is near and available but so are others.  Such realization helps us strive to be better people and to rely on others for help and encouragement.  Such realization helps us to pray for others too.   Such realization also helps us to seek and draw closer to Christ and allow His Holy Spirit to influence our thinking and actions and decisions.

If you don’t like the person you’re becoming, remember Who is interceding for you and place your trust in Him.
