The Seed of the Word

i peter 1,3

When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. Matthew 13:19

Recommended Reading: I PETER 1:10-25  10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

COMMENTS: As I was preparing to write today’s devotion, I learned there is an Norwegian island called Spitsbergen located 800 miles from the North Pole.  Obviously, it has a very cold climate.  I also recalled learning about that island many years ago when representatives from that island came to purchase some mining equipment from my employer.  They solicit coal miners from other countries for 6-month tour of duties mining coal to be shipped mostly to Europe in summer when shipping lanes are not frozen and passible.  Miners live and work underground during the 6 months when shipping lanes are frozen and impassible.

An additional importance of that island, I learned, is the Svalbard Global Seed Vault.   Also underground in an abandoned mined area is stored hundreds of thousands of seeds from tens of thousands of crop species from around the world.  Vault is designed to preserve and be a source of seed for replanting food crops in the aftermath of a global catastrophe.  Such planning and forethought reflects global concern for self-destructive nature of man but also wisdom in doing everything possible to prepare for the unthinkable.

Yet, we have a God who is the creator of all and who has been in full control from eternity past and will be for eternity future.  He gives us free will to choose wisely or foolishly.  To heal or destroy.  To love or hate.  To follow satan’s evil deceptions or His good plans.  To choose death or life.

He knows what will happen and is offering to prepare us for what is to come.    We go to great lengths preparing for some things that likely will never happen but all too many fail to prepare for what will ultimately happen.  Our Bible tells us man will ultimately strive to destroy himself but Christ will one day return and stop it and bind and cast satan and all his followers into hell and restore the earth and all His faithful followers.

So why not put our trust and allegiance on One who loves us like none other and has the will and plan and power and authority to fulfill all promises He has made to us.  Faithful Christians have boldly followed Christ in the midst of terrible unfair persecution and torture and even martyrdom from the early Church through the centuries to even today.      Many countries target and inflict persecution of Christians today just as was done to the first century church by Roman.  What gave them hope to continue was the confident hope of a home in heaven with loved ones and with Christ.  Their suffering would be over and a home was waiting beyond their wildest dreams.   I have witnessed the death of a number of loved ones who put their faith in Christ.  They all faced death with excitement and anticipation and not with fear or dread.   The joy in their face as they each passed seeing the face of their Savior who was waiting for them gives you and me confidence we too can trust Him and know He will be waiting to greet us too.

There is no better way to prepare for the future or more important preparation we can do.  Investing in the future is best done by investing in eternity.  Investing in Him and in the legacy, He is preparing to be our legacy.   We have promised to return but withholding revealing when.  It could be today or not in our lifetime.  Every generation of Christians anticipated His return to be in their generation.  If He had returned then, we would have missed the opportunity to live and choose Him too, but by waiting He has enabled us to be born and live and choose Him and eternal life too.  By sharing His Good News and love, we are partnering with Him so others can hear and know His Good News too and also have the confident hope of heaven those faithful Christ followers had before us.  AMEN?  AMEN!
