psalm 139,23-24

Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord” shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.   Matthew 7:21

Recommended Reading: Luke 6:39-4939 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”

COMMENTS:  We live in a world requiring constant proof we are who we say we are.  We are not permitted to drive a car without a driver’s license that has personal information and a current picture of us on it.  We can’t fly in an airplane without an ID with the same personal information and picture on it either.  Security to prevent dangerous or hostile individuals from infiltrating and causing harm to others makes such measures and inspection for weapons necessary at more and more public gatherings as well as before traveling in groups or in public transportation.

We see consequences all to often of consequences when such security fails and a hostile is able to inflict harm.

Danger to Christians and Christ’s church from counterfeit Christians and false teachers was a problem even in the first century church. Danger is people believe false teachings instead of scripture and become deceived into common lies like “salvation by works or earning a way to heaven” or “name it – claim it prosperity theology”.  To allow such false teachers an audience in our churches without being accountable to scripture teaching empowers their deception.   Some may be sincere but still wrong.  Scripture must be our barometer and enforcer.  A standard to judge truth from deception and sound bible teachers from counterfeits and genuine Christians from counterfeits.

Truth is, we all are still sinners saved only by grace and Holy Spirit still has work to do.  Our lives still do not adequately reflect Christ’s example.  The difference is whether we only teach scripture and only let Christ’s example and the Holy Spirit influence and guide us.  We all need to be accountable to other faithful Christians so we don’t become deceived or blind to satan’s cunnings and sinister ways of influencing our thoughts and actions.

Even David, as faithful and courageous in obedience as he was, was not always in close communion with God and sinned without even realizing he had ventured away from God.  If he could, so can we.  By seeking the Holy Spirit to search us and show us our soul’s state, we are regularly seeking course corrections necessary to stay true and faithful.  Psalm 139:23-24 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Salvation is only by a working faith. In short, good works are the fruit of saving faith. R. B. Kuiper
