Spring Cleaning – A Clean Heart

psalm 51,10

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10

RECOMMENDED READING: PSALM 24:1-4  “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.”

COMMENTS:  Spring is a time for new life.  Vegetation comes alive as rain and sunshine blankets the earth.   This experience each year is a reminder of how transforming God’s Grace and Holy Spirit brings new life and beauty to us.  God is a creator and sustainer of life in contrast to satan only capable of death.  Winter can’t sustain life but spring does.  Likewise, satan may make things appear beautiful but only brings death and misery.

Spring is a good time to remove decayed and dead brush and even do some “house cleaning “ to prepare for spring’s life and beauty.  The cleaning and preparation for spring also lifts spirits and makes everything fresh and clean and beautiful.  So, spring is also a good time to seek a deeper walk   with Christ and seek the Holy Spirit’s help to reveal and clean our hearts of neglect and sin that has crept in over the winter months.   We likely are not aware of results of neglect but we need to realize we all are guilty of neglecting Him to some degree and dirt and evil of the world will creep in as dirt on our bodies and cloths just from living in the world.  Knowing that, spending time seeking God’s cleansing as often as we bathe our bodies and wash our cloths is needed and appropriate.   Putting a priority to cleanliness both spiritually and physically gives new meaning to the famous statement “cleanliness is next to godliness”.  Truth is physical cleanliness may not be vital nor related to cleanliness of our soul, but discipline and close parallel of our bodies and soul’s care and discipline can and does draw us to treat both as a precious gift from God to be cared for and be careful to expose both to God’s Will and direction and away from the “world’s dirt”.

Does your heart need spring cleaning today? God is ready to hear your prayer if only you will talk to Him (1 John 1:9).
