Sound Choices

2 Timothy 4,3-5

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  2 Timothy 4:3, NIV

RECOMMENDED READING:  JOSHUA 1:7-9  “ Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

COMMENTS: Wise choices bring God’s blessings.   Foolish choices bring God’s consequences and corrections.  We get to choose, but only God gets to choose reward.  Whether the reward is a blessing or consequence, choice is always His and never ours. Only exception likely is the degree of the consequence depending on how quickly we repent or how harden we allow our heart to become and to continue on a wrong path even after being warned to turn back.  Consequences of poor choices only get worse and path back gets longer and harder as we continue down it in the wrong direction.

I had a wise work supervision who once told me “It is always better to turn around and come back from a wrong path no matter how long and hard the journey back is.  It only gets worse if knowingly continue down the same wrong path” Prescott (Scotty) Green.

His advice is true in every work discipline and every life experience, and every spiritual battle and struggle.  God calls us to be Faithful.  That involves having Faith in Him and Trusting Him + Obeying His Commands and Instruction.  These two equal Faithfulness.  But the opposite of Faith is not Doubt but FEAR.  Fear brings doubt and doubt brings disobedience and disobedience destroys our fear.

Sound choices strengthen our faith.  Just as a car’s headlights only shine a limited distance down the road, as the car moves forward, the lights illumine the same distance from the car but further down the road.   They keep up with car’s movement.  In the same manner, God illumines our path just enough to enable us to stay on the road of His Will.  It is only when we keep moving forward in obedience that He continues to illumine further down the road of His Will.   We need to keep in mind His Will and timing are best and He knows what lies ahead because He is already there even though He is here too.   You see, since God has no limits, He not only is everywhere, but is in every time so He can not be surprised nor be unprepared.   So, He has us covered if we follow His Will.  When we aren’t sure, waiting on Him is far better than going ahead of Him.  But that waiting time is only well spent if we use that time to fellowship and worship and seek His direction.  King Saul’s fatal sin was not waiting for Samuel to give the prayer and sacrifice before battle.  Samuel was delayed and Saul became impatient and gave the prayer and sacrifice himself.  After all, Saul had seen Samuel do so many times so knew how to do it.  BUT GOD WASN’T TRAINING SAUL HOW TO DO A SACRIFICE, BUT TRAINING HIM TO BE OBEDIENT.  God may be delaying and answer or direction to teach you and me the same lesson.  Will we miss it or trust He is preparing us for greater service with His delay.  AMEN?  AMEN!
