LOOKING AT THE BIG PICTURE

                                            james 1;17

Matthew 10:8  “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

JAMES 1:17  “17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

I Timothy6: 5-12Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”

COMMENTS:  Sometimes we just need to back up and look at the “big picture” and make course correction to get back on the marked path.   When we accept Christ, we join Christ’s team, Christ’s Army, and have access to Christ’s resources.  Some would teach that means we have access to prosperity and health and long life and success in all our endeavors if we have sufficient faith.  We don’t fail due to lack of faith, but because of going our own way.  However, “Name it – Claim it” theology takes us down a road we create in an attempt to understand and follow God’s Will without seeking and asking and waiting until God reveals His Will, His Timing, and His Way.   Truth is God’s Ways are so far above ours that we dare not assume we know and proceed on our own.  The Holy Spirit is given to believers so they don’t need to guess or use trial and error to know God’s Will, but must seek and wait to hear His response.  Likewise, we need not continue down wrong paths ignorant.  WE NEED TO BE IN CONTINUAL FELLOWSHIP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT TO BE IN AND STAY IN GOD’S WILL AND GOD’S TIMING.    That is a goal and a struggle for us humans because we are so impatient and so easily distracted.  Me too…

Good news is God knows that and is simply waiting until we realize that and ask for His help.  Life is daily making choices, some good and some foolishly poor.  The temptation to seek security and comfort are powerful distractions.  The desire to walk a comfortable path, instead of the path of faith trusting our God, who loves us above all others, is felt by every human still breathing.  But our God desires for us a better path, the path of walking in faith with our hand in His and our eyes on Him.  How do we do that?  How do we turn our eyes away from our wants and even needs, letting go of what we have or don’t have and start putting our trust in Him?

That doesn’t mean taking reckless risks calling it “acting on faith”.  But it does mean stopping and taking as much time that we need to clear our mind and focus on finding out God’s Will.  Then and only then walk in faith of the path and choice God directs.  Stop and reflect past mistakes you now wish you had avoided by stopping and praying and seeking God’s council first.

A wise man once told me “we don’t go down a wrong path so far that it is still better to turn around and go back and start over”.  So, let’s stop assuming we know God’s Will or even knowing we knew God’s Will some time ago when we asked but haven’t checked in for a while to see if God has updates to give us.  God might just be wanting you to turn at a crossroads and take a different path.  The journey must continue with Him if we are ever going to reach the destination we long for, the destination He designed us to reach.

God has not called you and me to acquire and consume things, thereby consuming His provision to satisfy our own wants and desires.   He provided more than we need when we only consume what we need, but when we consume what our selfish desires want, we find ourselves in debt and want.  But when we follow God’s plan, He provides what we need and empowers us to give generously toward other’s needs and to ministry.  Tithing is a starting point but only a lofty goal when we follow our own wants.  What blessing is waiting for us when we follow God’s Will?  There is only one way to find out!
“God is never less than generous, even when we are less than grateful.”   John Blanchard
