April Fool’s Day or is it?

3-24-16 pic6The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty. Psalm 93:1

PSALM 93The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, for ever.”

DON’S COMMENTS :   Today is April 1st, April fools day. The day when it is suppose to be ok to try to fool others. I’m sure, over the years, you have had some fun tricking others and have been tricked many times too. Me too, but have to admit it is more fun tricking than being tricked.   Yet such is intended to be harmless fun and usually is. But being “good” and being “truthful” all the time is what we have been taught since the cradle. Yet we have and continue to fall short of being good and truthful 100% of the time.   There are some words we have diminished their definition so much they no longer describe what they intended.   Awesome is one of those words. I believe this word should best be used to describe God instead of the many things and experiences we tie to this word.   Only God is awesome!! Another word God uses to describe Himself that has been greatly diminished is “good”. Luke 18:19 and Mark 10:18 give us Jesus’ words “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good–except God alone.”” Good is a word God intends to mean perfect in every way as only He is. That means none of us are worthy to be identified as good nor are any of our actions worthy of that word. Yet we use that word to describe performance that is average but not very good or excellent. Our expectations fall short of God’s. So what did Jesus mean when He said He wasn’t good, only the Father is good?   Commentaries and theologians have attempted to explain this for 2000 years but have all come short. We simply are not capable of understanding because we simply can’t understand God. We also can’t understand what Jesus gave up when he came to earth in a human body. I suspect the reason Jesus didn’t allow Himself to be identified at good was because His role was different and because, in human form, He had a different reliance on the Father because He was experiencing human weaknesses and pain. Yet we mustn’t forget Jesus lives the life of a human without sinning because His reliance on the Father was complete. I also suspect God’s definition of Good is so much different than our. I suspect if we knew how God defined Good, we would understand why He didn’t identify with that word while here as a human. So I think we should identify Good as a goal and not a present condition we can attain as humans. If Jesus wouldn’t identify Himself with that word, than we certainly should not, right? However, I believe the closer we get to Him, the more like Him we become. But the more like Him we become, the more we see He is like and more we need to change to be more like Him. That is a wonderful lifelong quest that will enrich our life and bring joy and ….
